Hello,
I am working out details in my mind about what I want in an AR-15. The final hurdle is caliber. I've been researching the difference between .223 and 5.56mm.
The way I understand it, and would like someone to confirm or comment on, is that because the 5.56mm cartridge has a longer throat than the .223 cartridge, it is not advisable to fire it in a rifle chambered for .223.
On the other hand the .223 should fire fine in a rifle chambered for 5.56mm. Is this indeed the case? I've also read that the 5.56mm is more readily available and cheaper to shoot than the .223.(?).
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Andy
